Painting by Godefridus Schalcken sought by Anja Sevcik

The Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud is currently preparing very first exhibition devoted to the work of Godefridus Schalcken (1643-1706): Glanz & Glamour , 25.9. 2015 – 20.1. 2016. Since the publication of Thierry Beherman’s Catalogue raisonné in 1988 new information on life and work of the artist showed up, but the whereabouts of many documented paintings are unknown and definitely more paintings than listed by Beherman are still to be traced. On 21 May of this year we published a news item asking for the whereabouts of some of his works. As a result, two of the paintings were found!

The organizers now would like to add one more painting to their search list, they are looking for the whereabouts of :

Godefridus Schalcken, Portrait  of Margaret Acton, formerly in the T.H. Foster Collection, documented with Christies, London, on 18 December 1963, lot 18 (possibly as by an anonymous artist) (illustrated on the right)

If you have any idea where this painting might be, please contact Anja Ševčík, head of the Department of Baroque Painting, Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud in Cologne
