From 30 September to 2 October 2011, our German sister organization the Arbeitskreis Niederländische Kunst- & Kulturgeschichte (ANKK) will hold its first international conference in Frankfurt, in cooperation with the Städel Museum and Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main. Registration will close on 15 September.
The theme of this year’s congress is Systems of perception: innovatory concepts and new approaches to Netherlandish art and culture, alluding to a phenomenon characteristic of the art and culture of the Netherlands – the attribution of special epistemological value to the power of sight. The reference to orders moreover emphasizes the variety of contexts in which perception takes place as a physiological and intellectual process that generates meaning. The conference motto takes into account the many diverse forms of art and culture in the Netherlands and encompasses all genres, periods and methods.
The conference will comprise six sections plus a poster section, eight workshops, and two public evening lectures by Prof. Dr. Krista De Jonge and Prof. Dr. Mieke Bal, and a film screening.
