CODART Membership
Who can become a full member?
Full membership is open to individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Curators of Dutch and Flemish art collections: This includes curators of paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, and applied arts. This also extends to research curators (including those in technical research) and exhibition curators with demonstrable expertise in Dutch and Flemish art who hold a permanent position at a museum. Freelance and project-based curators may qualify for associate membership.
- Curators of private collections: Individuals managing private collections that are open to the public.
- Museum directors: Directors of museums or institutions with a clear affinity for or knowledge of Dutch and Flemish art (e.g., former curators), as well as directors of museums whose collections include Dutch and Flemish masters but lack a specialist curator on staff.
- Curators on temporary contracts: Full membership is available to curators on temporary contracts who are extensively involved in Dutch and Flemish art before 1750, for the duration of their contract. This does not include curators whose museum association is primarily based on a singular exhibition or research project; they may qualify for associate membership.
- Periodization: Curators who are in charge of Dutch and Flemish art from before 1750 as part of their responsibility for a larger collection of diverse schools and periods, may also apply.
Who is not eligible
The following individuals are generally not eligible for full membership:
- Project-based curators: Curators whose museum association is clearly based on a specific (research or exhibition) project. These individuals may qualify for associate membership.
- Curators from non-collection institutions: This includes curators of institutions without art collections, such as most research institutions and exhibition spaces. These individuals may be eligible for associate membership.
- Curators of modern art: Curators specializing in Dutch and Flemish art created after 1750.
