Works by Samuel van Hoogstraten Sought for Catalogue Raisonné

Museum Rembrandthuis, the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien, and the RKD are working hard on their collaborative project for a catalogue raisonné of the works of Samuel van Hoogstraten (see the CODARTfeature of June 2022), to be launched in May of 2025. At this time, the authors would like to appeal to the members of CODART to inform them of any works in your collections (or in private collections that you know about) that are, or may be by, the artist.

Samuel van Hoogstraten, Pendant Pair of a Couple, monogrammed and dated 1670, Schloss Darmstadt, on loan from the Hessische Hausstiftung. Traced through a lead from Michiel Roscam Abbing.

The authors have been checking printed and online catalogues of museums around the world, but would like to make sure that they do not miss works hitherto unknown, or lost from sight such as the work pictured below.

Still untraced: Samuel van Hoogstraten (1627-1678), Rest on the Flight into Egypt, ca. 1670, last recorded in the Rijnen collection in Breda.

If you think you might know of such a work or if you have any information about the Rest on the Flight into Egypt pictured above, please contact Sabine van Beek (beek@rkd.nl) or David de Witt (d.dewitt@rembrandthuis.nl).
