The picture was taken during the CODART TWEE Congress in Amsterdam that took place from 15 to 16 March 1999. The congress focused on Dutch and Flemish art in Russia and was complemented by a study trip to St. Petersburg and Moscow. The first day of the congress, Monday, 15 March 1999, was held in Felix Meritis, the Amsterdam cultural center housed in the monumental building on Keizersgracht. Steve Austen, director of Felix Meritis, gave an introduction on the history of the building and its former users. The congress participants gathered on the central stairwell for a group photo. A scale model of the building can underneath the stairs.
