The British Library has confirmed a groundbreaking new development project of the Library’s location at St Pancras.
The development will create an expanded national Library in London, fit for the 21st century, to welcome hundreds of thousands more people a year to its exhibitions, learning programs, business support, events and more. Among other things, the project aims to double the size of the Library’s existing gallery space and enable greater interaction with the national collection.
The project will also benefit the local community with affordable workspaces, improved public areas, and a new community garden. Development is realized in partnership with SMBL and Mitsui Fudosan UK and is estimated to cost £1.1 billion. More details are available on the British Library’s website.
The British Library’s collection of over 170 million items encompasses multiple unique objects that reflecting Britain’s close historic ties with the Low Countries. Among other things it holds significant material for the study and appreciation of Netherlandish written culture and artistic heritage, including illuminated manuscripts, early printed books, prints, drawings, maps and views.
