Scholars of the Old Masters Gallery in Kassel are delighted to welcome a new arrival to their collection: The Museumslandschaft Hessen Kassel has been granted a self-portrait by the Flemish painter Jacob Jordaens (1593-1678) on permanent loan by a private collection. “Jordaens´s self-portrait makes an excellent addition to our collection, which boasts the largest holdings of works by Jordaens in Germany”, as Dr. Justus Lange, Head of the Old Masters Gallery, was happy to state.
The painting was last shown in public in 1993 as part of the big Jordaens exhibition held at the Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp. From Friday 22 May visitors to the Gallery in Kassel will be able to get a first-hand look at the newcomer.
