Rijksmuseum receives important work by Willem van de Velde on loan from private collection

Information from De Volkskrant and Christie’s website, 6 June 2012

This morning Dutch newspaper DeVolkskrant announced that the Rijksmuseum has received an important loan. Dutch men-o’-war and other shipping in a calm, sold last December at Christie’s will be on view in the Rijksmuseum from 12 June. It is lent to the museum by the Broere Charitable Foundation, a foundation supporting medical research and culture, set up by the Broere family.

The loan has two conditions, the painting has to be shown behind glass, and should always be on view.
