Vulnerable canvases by Jacob van Oostsanen restored, exhibition on the artist in 2014

Yesterday, the Amsterdam Museum and the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar announced that they will present an exhibition on Jacob van Oostsanen (1470-1533) in 2014. The high-quality, but relatively unknown work of the artist will be presented simultaneously on three locations, the Amsterdam Museum, the Grote Sint Laurenskerk in Alkmaar and the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar. The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Rijksmuseum.

On the occasion of the upcoming exhibition eight fragments of what was once one large canvas depicting the Miracle of Amsterdam of 1345 will be restored. The fragments, canvases painted with tempera and water paint, are very vulnerable and therefore very rare. They form one of the most important treasures of the Amsterdam Museum.
