CODART, Dutch and Flemish art in museums worldwide

New Curator in the Spotlight: Betsy Wieseman

In the latest edition of Curator in the Spotlight, CODART member Betsy Wieseman looks back on her career through a selection of favorite works of art that make up her “personal museum”. She also writes about the challenges she currently faces, such as how to interpret and contextualize the objects in her care for a 21st century audience that may be unfamiliar or uncomfortable with the traditions and customs they represent.

Betsy Wieseman is Curator and Head of the Department of Northern European Paintings at the National Gallery of Art in Washington. She has been a member of CODART since 1998.

Curator in the Spotlight

The Curator in the Spotlight is a special feature on the CODART website that introduces one of CODART’s members and their work as a curator of Dutch and Flemish art. Every time a different curator writes about their work, projects and exhibitions, and a piece in their collection that is special to them. Recent curators in the spotlight included Yuri van der Linden, Hildegard van de Velde, Femke Diercks, and Justus Lange.
