Gary Schwartz is awarded the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Prijs for the humanities

Information from the press release and the Schwartzlist, the internet column of Gary Schwartz

Once every three years since 1992, the Prince Bernhard Cultural Foundation, originally launched under another name in 1940 to aid the war effort, has awarded a prize to a person or institution in the humanities. It is a generous prize of 50,000 euros, of which two-thirds is to be spent on projects in the field of the laureate.

In its report the jury praised Gary Schwartz for his lifetime passion for and commitment to the best cultural heritage the Netherlands has to offer to the world. Throughout the years he has done a lot to stimulate the knowledge of and interest in 17th-century painting. Schwartz is internationally the most widely read art historian in the Netherlands.

We are very happy with this well-deserved recognition for our founder and honorary member. The prize will be awarded on 4 November in the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam.
