Remarkable Murals

Remarkable Murals

On this excursion we will visit two private residences in Bruges in which remarkable murals have been found. The oldest came to light at the end of the twentieth century and dates from before Van Eyck, in the late fourteenth century. It consists of several fragments, including a picture of St George and the Dragon. The other dates from the fifteenth century and depicts a Nativity scene. This smaller mural was discovered at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Recent addition to the program: We will end our excursion at the Church of Our Lady to take a look at the recently discovered murals. The church is undergoing extensive restoration. Kristel Van Audenaeren, Assistant Curator at the Groeningemuseum, Musea Brugge will tell us more about the restoration project and the findings.
