Curators Stipend

Curators Stipend 2026

In 2026, the Friends of CODART Foundation offers one Curators Stipend in partnership with the King Baudouin Foundation. As a part of their newly established Encouraging Young Talent Fund, the KBF is offering three grants for museums in Belgium to appoint a junior curator for the duration of six months, to support a senior curator and gain experience in a curatorial role. Modeled on the Curators Stipend of the Dutch Cultuurfonds, the grant of €25.000 will stimulate the transfer of knowledge between generations, and allow more breathing room and time for research for the senior curator.

The Friends of CODART Foundation is delighted to contribute to the training of a young curator through this grant. The stipend funded by the Friends of CODART should focus on a collection of or project concerning Dutch and Flemish art before 1800. The applying senior curator must be a member of CODART, and the junior curator will be offered membership for the duration of their employment.

CODART encourages all members in Belgium to consider application. Deadline for applications is 15 May 2026. To read more about eligibility and how to apply, please visit this page [link].

Curators Stipend 2023

In 2023 the Friends of CODART Foundation partnered with the Cultuurfonds to facilitate one extra Curators Stipend. For this purpose €25.000 was donated to the Cultuurfonds. The fund received a record number of applications, and in September 2023 the Friends of CODART Curators Stipend was awarded to the Centraal Museum in Utrecht for a research project about Gerard van Honthorst. The stipend enables the museum to hire a junior curator for the duration of six months, in which the senior curator in which the senior curator can devote him or herself to research, or can receive support from the junior in another project. At the same time, a junior curator is enabled to gain experience working in a museum.

Congress Grants

Since 2012 the Friends of CODART Foundation has supported curators from financially challenged institutions to participate in the annual CODART congress. CODART-members can apply for a grant that will help them cover the congress fee, two nights of accommodation in the congress hotel, and/or travel expenses for traveling to the congress location.
Applications are reviewed by a selection committee consisting of two members of the board of the Friends of CODART Foundation.

Mentoring Program

Every other year CODART coordinates a Mentoring Program, pairing curators at the start of their career with those who have years of experience in the profession. This helps early career curators find their way in the field – and in the CODART network – and at the same time experienced curators benefit from developing new contacts outside their own institution. The Friends of CODART support this program by offering travel grants to mentees to meet with their mentors in person.
