CODART NEGEN Congress: program

Congress program

In 2006 CODART celebrates the 400th birthday of Rembrandt with a congress in his birthplace Leiden and a study trip to the eastern and northern provinces of his own country, the Netherlands. The plenary program on Monday morning will devote attention to these aspects of CODART NEGEN. The afternoon workshops are devoted to the work of the curator. The membersā€™ meeting, which will be held on Tuesday afternoon, provides participants with the opportunity to introduce future projects for which they are seeking partners. In the morning a program of excursions in Leiden is on offer.

Workshops

(1) The roles of curator, restorer and management: delegating responsibility or sharing it? Chaired by Sabine van Sprang, curator at the Koninklijke Musea voor Schone Kunsten van BelgiĆ« – Museum voor Oude Kunst, Brussel
(2) More or less? Mixed presentations in museums and their impact on curatorship, chaired by Charles Dumas, RKD, The Hague.
Inspired by the celebration of the 400th anniversary of Rembrandtā€™s birth and the exhibition Rembrandtā€™s mother, myth and reality at the Stedelijk Museum de Lakenhal, two workshops will focus on Rembrandt:
(3) Rembrandt content: what makes a good Rembrandt exhibition? Chaired by Edwin Buijsen, RKD, The Hague, and
(4) Rembrandt overkill? Chaired by Gary Schwartz, former director of CODART. The speakers will be announced in December.

Excursions

Participants can choose between one of two excursions. The first will focus on paintings in historical locations. We will visit various ‘hofjes’ and see their interiors, as well as the Theatrum Anatomicum and the Vier gedaanten van de arts (Four faces of the doctor) at Museum Boerhaave, followed by a visit to the painting storage of De Lakenhal. The second group will visit the fine prints and drawings collection of the University of Leiden and the Bibliotheek Thysiana, followed by a visit to the Clusius Garden.

Your choices of workshops and excursions can be made on the registration form.
