Alabaster

On Wednesday, 9 November, CODART is partnering with M Leuven to organize a CODARTfocus meeting to accompany the unique exhibition Alabaster. This prestigious show, mounted by M, in collaboration with Musée du Louvre, Paris, will be on view in Leuven (Louvain) from 14 October 2022 to 26 February 2023. Almost 130 works crafted in this remarkable material will be on display, including masterpieces by Conrad Meit, Tilman Riemenschneider, and the Master of the Rimini Altarpiece. For more information about the exhibition, please visit the exhibition page.

Besides an exclusive visit to the exhibition (while the museum is closed to the public) with the curators of the exhibition, Marjan Debaene (M Leuven) and Sophie Jugie (Musée du Louvre), the CODARTfocus program will include several in-depth lectures. The speakers will be Stefan Roller (Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung, Frankfurt), Kim Woods (Open University, UK) and Sophie Jugie. More information about the lectures can be found here. Stephan Kemperdick (Gemäldegalerie, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Berlin) will serve as moderator during the lectures and the Q&A session.

The CODARTfocus Alabaster has been scheduled to follow the 9th Annual Ards Colloquium The Art of Devotion: The Agency of Sculpture to be held in Leuven on 7–8 November. At this colloquium, new research on the sculpture of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance will be presented. Participants in the Ards colloquium are also welcome to register for the CODARTfocus event.

The full program of the CODARTfocus Alabaster is available here. You can find information on registration here.

This event is a collaboration between CODART, M Leuven and ARDS and made possible by the support of the Flemish Government.
