CODARTfocus: Online Attribution Session – Drawings from Schwerin
On 12 November 2024, we invite CODART members to collectively discuss a diverse selection of 25 drawings from the Staatliches Museum Schwerin during an online CODARTfocus. This event is organized as an experiment to see if it is possible to organize a successful online attribution session. We hope that many people will participate and share their views.
The graphic collection of the Staatliches Museum Schwerin contains about 60,000 works on paper. The drawings are divided into schools according to their region of origin. However, a large number of drawings are not assigned to any of the schools and have therefore been largely overlooked by curators and researchers. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Gero Seelig, Curator of Painting and Sculpture, spent time examining these unpublished drawings and found that some were of high quality or had interesting subject matter. One of the drawings can almost certainly be attributed to Gerrit van Honthorst, while others resemble the style of Jordaens, Brueghel, or German and Italian masters. For this online attribution session, Gero Seelig has selected 25 interesting drawings that he believes deserve further research.
